Cold War logic pulled America deeper into Vietnam: escalation after the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (1964), the draft, and the shock of the Tet Offensive (1968). An antiwar movement and counterculture grew as the Pentagon Papers exposed a 'credibility gap'; even Dr. King broke with the war (Beyond Vietnam). It ended in withdrawal (1973) and the fall of Saigon (1975). The turning point — the collapse of public trust in government, televised into America's living rooms.
